Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has taken multiple preventive measures to mitigate dengue transmission.

According to CCC sources, a targeted intensive mosquito-elimination programme was launched on September 3 in vulnerable areas of the city.

Alongside identifying and eliminating potential mosquito-breeding sites across multiple wards, enforcement operations through mobile courts are also being conducted, the sources said.

According to representatives of the CCC conservancy office, the citywide ‘crash programme’ targeting mosquito elimination and sanitation continues without interruption.

Fogging machines are being deployed to apply insecticides in designated areas, while efforts to identify and eliminate Aedes mosquito-breeding sites are underway in other locations. City Corporation sanitation personnel are actively working across multiple wards, while the mayor is disseminating educational materials and mobile courts are conducting enforcement operations, the sources said.

Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain told BSS today, “We are implementing continuous crash programmes for mosquito control throughout the city’s 41 wards.

“I am personally visiting various wards to distribute educational materials and supervise sanitation operations. We are committed to preventing further dengue-related fatalities.

“Disease management requires city residents to demonstrate responsibility in their respective roles. The outbreak can be substantially controlled through the systematic destruction of Aedes mosquito-breeding grounds. Consequently, water accumulation must be prevented in and around residential properties, and cleanliness must be maintained consistently,” he added.

Dr Mohammad Sajedur Rahman, Civil Surgeon of Chattogram district, said the general population must also remain vigilant and take protective measures against dengue.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jahidul Islam Miah said, “Dengue prevention requires not only the elimination of Aedes mosquito-breeding sites but also the consistent maintenance of cleanliness in residential areas, workplaces and their immediate surroundings.

“Environmental hygiene is a shared responsibility that extends beyond any single person, entity or agency; rather, it is a collective endeavour. We must establish cleanliness as an ingrained practice,” he added.
Mentionable, a total of 1,268 people have been infected with dengue, while nine fatalities have been recorded over an 18-day period in September in Chattogram district.

The incidence of dengue infections and associated mortality has shown a concerning upward trend throughout this month. As of the previous day, nine deaths attributable to dengue had been documented in September, compared with five deaths during the preceding eight-month period.

Besides, 2,036 confirmed cases were identified during those eight months, while 1,628 individuals have been infected within this 18-day period.

Historically, dengue cases typically begin to rise in June-July, with the numbers generally declining by September-October. Public health specialists have expressed concern that the rising trend may continue through October.

According to the Chattogram Civil Surgeon’s Office, a cumulative total of 3,220 dengue cases have been documented to date, with 14 fatalities recorded. Within the past 24 hours, 72 dengue patients have been undergoing treatment at various government and private healthcare facilities.

It is mentionable that in 2025, a total of 4,864 dengue cases were documented, with 27 fatalities. Besides, 2024 recorded 4,323 cases and 45 deaths. In 2023, 14,087 people contracted the disease, resulting in 107 deaths, while 2022 saw 5,445 cases and 41 deaths.
